The Crucible Gallery: Your Underground Access Atop Your Everyday Shopping Center

Okay, maybe it’s not really that underground especially When In Manila. I mean, there’s a big possibility you’ve seen art from everywhere starting with your school’s bathroom and that bricked wall right pass third street. But the point is, this is really something awesome, and if I were you, I’d listen very closely. I mean, read.

The Crucible Gallery is located at the 4th Floor, Building A of SM Megamall.

The Crucible Gallery has been around 19 years, and yet, it was my first time hearing about it while going around Megamall Building A (Yes, I know. It’s hard to believe that it’s just around the corner. Sigh.). It was more like seeing, really, but you get what I mean. It’s not so much about how it looks that caught my eye although I do admit those pillars were an awesome touch and well, the simplicity makes the artworks stand out. Mostly though, it was because it was all black at that time and I actually thought it was a new store prepping up for their “big day”. So, I promised myself to check it out once it’s been opened and hopefully, blog about it. Months have passed and a couple of exhibits later, I was finally able to remind myself to bring the camera and fulfill my long due promise. And since The Crucible Gallery has been known to be the home of incredible minds and unrelenting talent, their current feature [at that time] Omi Reyes didn’t fail to amaze me.

A not-so-out-there way of saying who the artist is makes it humbling and simply genuine

With a retro-futuristic approach on Steampunk, I can’t help but remember my childhood days when science fiction was all the rage. It puts me in a place where I felt like a part of Fullmetal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop with a pinch of Gurrenn Lagann all on top of Count of Monte Cristo (For those who are clueless about what I’m talking about, you can either suffice yourself with knowing that it’s all anime or you can use google. *smiles*). Okay, I may not remember how the story goes and how the plot line went (I know it’s the same thing, but it sounds better than just using one), but the point is, the feeling is still the same. Nostalgic… and out-of-this-world.

Mechanical Elegance

Like Mechanical Elegance, who wouldn’t be drawn in with an art piece like that? It’s fascinating enough that the artwork is four dimensional, but to see the intricacy and precision in every detail of this artwork (Not even one spot was left blank!)  makes me wonder how it would fit in a sci-fi movie. I bet this was what Megatron’s really looking for, he just doesn’t know it yet.

Motion In Stillness

Motion In Stillness

Then, add up Motion In Stillness into the picture and you’d get a combination of the cube and the circle of doom. Okay, so maybe it’s not really more of a circle of doom than a piece of machinery normally found from our beloved autobots, but it still captures the same feeling. It’s both scary as hell but riveting to the eyes.

The very thing I find the hardest to believe though, is that these are fruits of just paint, canvass and wood.
