The Malasimbo Festival (malasimbo.com), now going on its sixth year in 2016 is an event that spans two weekends—the Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival from March 4 to 6, 2016 and the Malasimbo Lights and Dance Festival from March 24 to 26, 2016—in breathtaking Mount Malasimbo overlooking Puerto Galera bay, on the beautiful island of Oriental Mindoro, just three hours south of Manila.

From a turnout of 1,500 adventure-seeking, natureand-music loving individuals in its first year in 2011, attendance blossomed to some 8,000 festival-goers in 2015, among them travelers from more than 30 countries as far as France t o neighboring Hong Kong and Singapore. Headliners of past Malasimbo Music and Arts Festivals have included James Brown’s renowned trombone player Fred Wesley and his band The New JBs, English R&B singer Joss Stone, acid jazz artist Omar, US funk and soul composer Roy Ayers, the king of latin soul Joe Bataan, Japan’s leading Taiko performers Gocoo, Swedish musician Jose Gonzalez, singers Taylor McFerrin ,and reggae artist KyMani Marley performing alongside leading Filipino jazz singers and musicians.

But what makes the Malasimbo Festival exceptional is its breathtaking venue. The festival grounds are located on a grass-terraced amphitheatre situated on majestic Mt. Malasimbo, which overlooks Puerto Galera bay, recognized as one of “The Most Beautiful Bays in the World” (world-bays.com) Malasimbo is acknowledged by the Department of Tourism Philippines as a prime catalyst for the country’s continued advance in music, arts, and culture.

Tom Thum

Beatboxing virtuoso, Tom Thum from Australia returns to #Malasimbo2016 as “Thum Prints.” This novel performance will be a collaboration amongst Tom Thum, Brisbane composer Gordon Hamilton and the The Manila Symphony Orchestra! Expect a scintillating performance between a full orchestra and beatboxing.

All-time favorites Afro-Brazilian percussion band Brigada, beatmeisters CRWN, house music DJs Kristian Hernandez, Badkiss, Mark Zero, and Miro, Filipino soul band SINOSIKAT? and jazz band Brat Pack return to #Malasimbo2016.

Firsttime performers are the well-loved Tacloban-based vocalists Reo Brothers with their repertoire of retro standards, and jazz-electronica ! ! ! ! instrumentalists Lustbass, who recently released Tom Thum at #Malasimbo2015 the single “Vital Transformation” featuring the By Artu Nepomuceno brilliant and eclectic American vocalist Georgia Anne Muldrow under Malasimbo Recordings.
