The UPLB Mathematical Sciences Society was established in 1973 and has since been one of the duly recognized academic organizations in the University of the Philippines Los Banos. The goal of the society is to contribute to the development of the Filipino nation by cultivating deeper appreciation and wider application of mathematical sciences, by fostering academic excellence in the direction of social relevance and by being involved with the rest of the university constituency and with the Filipino masses. For over 40 years of glorious existence, the society continues to inspire and showcase the beauty of mathematics through different activities.

One of the grandest activities that the organization has established is the Southern Tagalog Invitational Mathematical Challenge, popularly known as MATHEMATCH. It is an annual inter-high school invitational mathematics quiz contest held during the Mathematical Sciences Week. For a whole week, the organization conducts different activities aside from the quiz contest itself, such as the Teachers’ Seminar, a Poster Making Contest, an Exhibit display, and the Search for the Next UPLB Math Wizard.

This October 17, the organization is honored to host the 29th MATHEMATCH which will be participated by public and private secondary schools from CALABARZON and MIMAROPA. The event is endorsed by the regional offices of the Department of Education.

The contest will have a closed-door preliminary examination wherein participants will have to answer individually.

The accumulated scores will serve as a basis for the teams’ qualification for the Final Round.

Only the top 15 teams will enter the Final round, which is open for public viewing.

All the questions are well-screened and will range from different topics in mathematics such as Logic, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Statistics.
