A rom-com by Antoinette Jadaone that won Audience Choice Award and Best Actress for Panganiban, “That Thing Called Tadhana”, was out on a nationwide theatrical release last February 4.

The film follows Mace (Panganiban) and Anthony (JM de Guzman), who met each other at an airport in Rome, Italy. Heartbroken, Mace decided to take a road trip to Baguio that led to Sagada with Anthony keeping her company in the slow process of mending a broken heart.

Here are some hugot lines from the movie that most, if not all, can relate to.

10. “Para sa mga umibig, nasaktan, ngunit umibig pa rin. You know, tatanga-tanga.”

At the beginning of the film, this lines appeared, which brings some truth in them. This suggests that the film is dedicated and made for those loved and lost, but chose to love again.

9. “Magbebreak din kayo!”

When we’re bitter over something like seeing sweet couples publicly displaying their affection for each other while we’re nursing a broken heart, we can’t help but blurt this line out. Mace said this line while waiting for a taxi in the airport when she saw a couple being affectionate with each other while she still feels bad over her recent breakup.

8. “Gaano katagal bago mo siya nakalimutan?”
“Matagal.”
“Gaano nga katagal? One year? Two? 3? 4? 5?”
“Importante pa ba ‘yun? Ang mahalaga, nakalimutan.”

On the bus ride to Baguio, Mace asked Anthony how long will it take to forget. Anthony said that it will take a while but no matter how long it takes, the important thing is, you forget about it.

7. “Kung mahal mo, habulin mo, ipaglaban mo. Wag mong hintaying may magtulak sa kanya pabalik sa’yo. Hilahin mo. Hanggang kaya mo, wag kang bibitaw.”

If you love someone, set them free, right? And if they come back, their yours? Nope, nope. Mace believes that if you love someone, you run after them and fight for them. You don’t wait for destiny to push them back towards you. You pull them hard as long as you can.

6. “Hindi. Na. Kita. Mahal. Makakaalis. Ka. Na. Seven words. ‘Yung 8 years namin, tinapos n’ya in 7 words.”

How many words did it take for yours to end?

5. “Hindi ka na niya mahal. Yun na yon. Ano di malinaw dun?”
“T*** **a naman, sabihin naman niya kung bakit–“
“Bakit, kapag sinabi ba niya kung bakit, may magbabago? Ang bottomline, hindi ka niya mahal.”
“Close ba tayo? Ang sakit mo na magsalita ha!”

There is no simpler explanation because if a person doesn’t love you anymore then that’s just it. No matter what explanation you try to get from them, if they don’t love you anymore, they don’t love you.

4. “Naaalala ko siya sa lahat.”

If you have been in relationship for a very long time, in Mace’s case it’s 8 years, you remember that special person in almost everything. In this film, Mace remembers her ex-boyfriend even in the oddest and most vague things like ketchup, pastillas, Dark Knight, and dahon ng malunggay.

3. “Alam mo ‘yung sinabi ni F. Scott Fitzgerald? There are all kinds of love in this world, but never the same love twice.”

2. “Kasi ‘yung ganyang kalaking pagmamahal, ganyang overwhelming love, imposibleng walang pupuntahan eh. May mababalik sayong pagmamahal. Not necessarily sa taong pinagbigyan mo, pero sigurado ako, mababalik ‘yan sa’yo.”

No matter how hard or how long it takes, chances are, you can always recover from a heartbreak. As Anthony said, it’s impossible for an overwhelming love to go to nowhere. That love will always come back to you. It may not necessarily come from the person whom you gave love to, but love will definitely be reciprocated.

1. “Pano ba makalimot?”
“Pwede kang uminom gabi gabi, pwede kang umiyak gabi gabi, pwede kang makipagdate kung kani-kanino, o pwede ka ring makahanap ng new love.”

There are many ways to mend a broken heart. You can drown yourself with beer, you can cry every night, you can go out and meet other people, or you can find a new love.

How did you mend your broken heart?
