Stress, the hidden killer. In a recent survey by a popular cable news channel, about 23% out of 200 Filipino respondent cite that job-related concerns are the main causes of stress. As someone who has worked in a BPO under a support team for the past decade, I can easily relate to this. As such, I make it a point to visit a nearby spa every payday to rid myself of the accumulated negativity and toxicity during the week.
Located near the famous Wilson street in San Juan, Thai Temple Spa opens its doors to those who are tired and weary, and promise to invigorate you without emptying your wallet. With multiple ways to get pampered, though, emptying your wallet is still an option.
When going to Thai Temple Spa, make sure you go via Wilson Street then make a turn to J. Abad street; that’s the easiest way to get there. Once there, you will be welcomed by a quiet and cozy place set for relaxation. It may not be as big as other spas, but the important thing is that it is fresh and clean! Even the bathroom and comfort room can give any 4-star hotel a run for its money.
The refreshing peppermint foot scrub before the services is already a treat in itself. Being an adventurous fellow, I also tried their body scrub service at Php550 per hour. You will be given two options: milk with honey apricot, which smells like the best breakfast you’ve ever had; or olive salt, which smells like the freshest and fanciest soap you’ll encounter.
After the hour-long scrubbing session, you will be led to their bathroom to wash up. You will be left with silky smooth skin softer than a baby’s butt. This was the first time I got a body scrub, and will come back again. I give this a 10/10.
After the body scrub was the Thai foot massage at Php300 per hr). Did you know that the health of your feet can affect your overall health? If you walk or commute a lot, or wear the wrong shoes, you might feel constant foot pain and discomfort over time. Well, one of the best things you can treat yourself with is a good foot massage. After an hour’s session, I was completely refreshed! This is another 10/10 in my book.
After the excellent body scrub and foot massage, another unforgettable experience for me was the Swedish massage at Php350 per hour. You can also get a Thai massage with or without oil (Php300/Php350). Since I’m not flexible enough and am quite a tall man – and a Thai massage involves a ton of stretching – I took pity on the masseuse and spared her the torture and got a Swedish massage instead. A good massage always makes me fall asleep and that’s what happened by the end of this session. Another 10/10.
Thai Temple Spa may be a small place, but they do what they do very well. It is such a shame that the Makati-San Juan traffic is unbearable at times, so it is hard for me to make a weekly visit. If you live or work closeby, though, I do encourage you to visit whenever you can for that much-needed pampering.
