When In Manila, and your sweet tooth is running on overdrive, there is one place that can satisfy that along with some great Japanese food. Tempura Japanese Grill has come out with six sweet reasons for you to keep coming back.
Reason #1 : Molten Lava Cake P110
Check out the dark chocolate oozing out of that cake! As the name suggests it, this homemade chocolate lava cake is served with triple scoop ice cream with cherry. And chocolate does go well with ice cream. All that lava falls into some fabulous cinnamon paste too.
Reason #2 : Crusted Apple Pie – P130
Apple pie crusted with sweetened walnuts, topped with caramelized sugar, ice cream and cherry. This still has that homemade freshness to it. Look at all that mix of flavors & textures!
Reason #3 : Praline Mousse Ganache – P245
This is perfect for sharing for a group of 4. This cake is layered with caramelized Hazelnut paste which is called Praline. It basically covers a mousse coated with chocolate ganache and topped with chocolate shavings and cherry. Chocolate chocolate chocolate, I’m getting hungry.
Reason #4 : Caramelized Carrot Cake – P120
The carrot shavings make for an interesting element in this carrot cake. Also with caramelized sugar and cinnamon paste on the side.
Reason #5 : Raisin bread from Baguio Country Club – P100 half (P100) / Centennial Raisin Bread (big) – P200
This is the famous bread that people line up for in Baguio Country Club. Now you don’t have to go to Baguio or line up either since its already in select Tempura Japanese Grill branches.
What makes it really special is that it doesn’t use any preservatives and uses only Bromate-free flour to ensure highest quality bread. In short, it’s really soft and you can taste the freshness of raisins in it. Now there is good reason to go to the Alabang Town Center, Banawe amd Morato branches of Tempura Japanese Grill where these are available.
Reason #6 : Banana Bread from Baguio Country Club – P200
I enjoyed this so much too because of its softness, just enough sweetness and real banana taste. Personally, this is a pastry I would regularly take out.
We also discovered that Sukiyaki is a perfect partner to these cakes and pastries. What makes for an appetizing experience is the break in sweetness and saltiness of the breads and Sukiyaki. You should try it, Sukiyaki – Cake – Sukiyaki – Bread – Sukiyaki – Cake. Its amazingly appetizing that you won’t notice how much of your food is gone already.
Another great Japanese staple is the Kani Salad.
And one of their best sellers. Uncle Sam.
Something very light to have also is their Sushi Plate. This probably is a gastronom-eat where we intended to have more sweets and these basic Japanese dishes are perfect light starters before you dig into all the delicious sweetness of their desserts.
Tempura Japanese Grill restaurants have that contemporary feel to it.
And this is us with Ms. Vea, our bubbly gracious host for that day. We came out of Tempura Japanese Grill full and satisfied with the delicious experience of their desserts.
When In Manila, and you’re craving for great cakes and pastries check out any of the branches of Tempura Japanese Grill for their new line of desserts :
Banawe – Morato – SM Mall of Asia – Robinsons Midtown – UN Avenue – Convergys Makati – SM Pampanga – SM Cebu
Just as we did, try having desserts as your “main course” and fill it in with light Japanese food. You’ll be refreshingly surprised at how satisfying it is to quench those sweet-tooth cravings.
