Unhappy with Filipino Tekken 7 character Josie Rizal’s name?
It’s either keep it or delete her, according to Tekken chief producer and director, Katsuhiro Harada.
Harada responded in a series of tweets following some negative reactions surrounding Josie Rizal’s identity, particularly her name, which was inspired from national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
On his Twitter account, Harada said the following:
Harada rejected tweets from fans to simply change Josie Rizal’s name, saying that those who disagreed “were in the minority”. According to his tweet, he also said that “if something will happen”, or if the local government chooses to take action against Josie Rizal’s name, he would simply delete the character instead of renaming it.
The NCCA, on the other hand, clarified that it has yet to issue a statement on the creation of Josie Rizal, refuting claims that they are opposed to the Tekken 7 character.
