Carmona, Cavite. After the success of the first TakboLung last year, the Carmona Road Runners and the Municipal Government of Carmona through its Municipal Health Office is set to stage the second leg dubbed as TakboLung2, for the benefit of Tuberculosis Patients in Carmona on November 25, 2012 (Sunday) at the Mayor’s Boulevard Brgy. Maduya.

Registering close to a thousand runners last year, Takbolung2 is expecting more than 1,500 runners in neighboring towns in Cavite, Laguna and other nearby provinces. The race categories are 3K (P250), 5K (P300) and 10K (P350).

Tuberculosis is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the Philippines. The prevalence of this is highest among the poor, elderly and urban dwellers. Considered a lifestyle disease, among the causes of tuberculosis is smoking. To protect the citizens against this disease, last December 2011, the Municipal Government of Carmona passed the Municipal Ordinance No. 009-2011 or the Carmona Smoke Free Ordinance to safeguard the constituents against the harms of smoking and second hand smoke.

The LGU has been active in different kinds of information dissemination about the ordinance to different sectors and organizations. During the second semester of 2012, the LGU started the strict implementation of the said ordinance and has been doing several campaigns to help smokers to quit through the Smoking Cessation Program.

Tuberculosis is a curable disease, but despite the availability of treatment methods, there is still social stigma that hinders patients to come out and deal with it. By joining the fun run, aside from raising awareness about TB, participants will be able to pave impoverished TB patients’ way to recovery.

Registration forms are available at the Pagamutang Bayan ng Carmona, Main Health Center and maybe downloaded from www.carmonagov.net. For more inquiries, call (046) 430-2372 or 09275255071.
