Waray Nga RUN: A Solidarity Mile RunWarayNgaRUN

WARAY ngaRUN, derived from a Waray-Waray phrase “waray ngaran” which means nameless, is a fun run event, open to all Filipinos across the country and non-Filipinos as well, designed to (1) Commemorate the lives of the many nameless victims lost to the typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda, (2) Honor the unsung heroes, the many groups and individuals who helped and continuously do so the survivors, (3) Bring continuous awareness to the needs of various devastated areas, (4) Strengthen WARAY spirit to start again and keep moving forward, (5) Involve the youth as front liners in rebuilding the people’s lives.

The day will start with the WARAY ngaRUN followed by Solidarity Street Fest wherein exhibits, fair, bazaars, shows and competitions will be happening all through-out the day. The celebration will be capped with a concert called Solidarity Festival: Music, Lights,  Colors.

THE MOVERS:

Y4UW is a group of young people scattered across five continents of different ethnicities, nationalities and culture, belonging to various religious denominations or do not profess a religious belief, but are united by the desire to build a more united world using every available means to bridge divisions among all generations, backgrounds and levels to make humanity into a family where personal identity is honored. We are the youth arm of Focolare Movement, a lay ecumenical movement officially recognized by the Catholic Church as Work of Mary.

THE CAUSE:

All proceeds of the event will be to help fund the START AGAIN PROJECT, a project of the Y4UW Manila which aims to help rebuild the spirits, lives and communities of the typhoon struck areas in the Visayas regions with a 7-point plan: (1) roofing for schools, (2) school supplies drive, (3) Yolanda memorial, (4) potable water systems, (5) higher education programs, (6) soup kitchen (7) medical mission. The project has already kicked-off in some interior areas of Visayas which are far-reached by help. Hence, we would like to extend this to Tacloban City.
