As the fight against COVID-19 continues, Britain became the first country in the world to approve a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is set to be rolled out early next week and will be available across the UK according to authorities.
“The Government has today accepted the recommendation from the Independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use,” they added.
According to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, this was the goal that they have been working on since declaring that science will win against the virus. “As we anticipate further authorizations and approvals, we are focused on moving with the same level of urgency to safely supply a high-quality vaccine around the world,” he added.
The program will begin next week and hospitals are ready to receive the vaccine according to Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
