Back-to-Back Throwback Performance: TLC and SWV Took Us Down Memory Lane

When I would compile throwback tunes, it’s imperative to include SWV and TLC songs. For me, the 90s RnB genre is useless without their hit songs like “Right Here”, “Diggin’ on You” or “Waterfalls”. My playlist of R&B songs gets updated with the latest songs, but will never be too full nor old for their songs.

On their one-night concert in Manila, these two sensational artists of the 90s took everyone down memory lane!

TLC and their fantastic crew! It was a blast! WE LOVE YOU and WE MISS YOU, LEFTEYE!

There’s a saying, “take a picture, lasts longer.” But, situations like this – the concert of the best girl group of the 90s – you’d wish you could’ve recorded the whole concert, so you could play it gazillion times after.

The crowd had gone wild when the lights went off, and SWV started singing the remix of one of my favorite songs, “Right Here.”

The concert was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. Some fans arrived early and some were even dressed like LeftEye, in loving memory of her.

TLC and SWV got everyone feeling nostalgic when they started singing their hit songs in the 90s!

SWV was the first act of the evening, and boy the coliseum was jumpin! They serenaded us with their songs from their new album entitled: Still. It’s their 5th album and was released last February 5th of this year (2016).

And, still, their voices haven’t changed a bit. They can still pull it off, just like the good old days! They performed two songs from the new album called “Ain’t No Man” and “MCE (Man Crush Everyday)”. Some of the songs they performed were “Downtown”, “I’m So Into You”, Anything (from Above The Rim soundtrack) and of course, the timeless, “Weak.” They sang that last but definitely my first legit favorite slow jam!

TLC, on the other hand, performed next and the rest was history. My friends and I lost it when they started singing!

Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins got her bad ass voice on lock! She still got the groove!

If you’re a 90s baby, you would know Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chili” Thomas or more collectively known as TLC. The American RnB girl group sold more than 75 million records worldwide and is considered as one of the most successful R&B girl group of all time.

I love Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. I guess age is just a number. Come on, look at her. Did she look like she aged? She still looks like the same girl from their music video “No Scrubs.”

Who could forget “No Scrubs”, “Waterfalls”, “Unpretty”, and “Diggin On You”? It’s been over 20 years since they last made us groove to their hits on and off the airwaves, yet, their brightness didn’t dim one bit.

Chilli was a bit naughty too when she called one lucky guy from the audience to come up onstage while dancing to the tune of Red Light Special!

Everyone was dancing and just letting it loose with their hit songs! I was way beyond ecstatic when I finally heard my favorite songs sang LIVE!

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. T-Boz and Chilli ended their remarkable one night performance with LeftEye’s favorite song, “Waterfalls.” (LeftEye parts were all recordings, but who cares!)

It’s been 20 years, yet TLC will remain one of the most brilliant all-girl RnB group to ever influence their audience. Their songs still continue to bring back the familiar RnB good vibes that only these girls can ever elicit.

Thank you, MMILive for giving us a back-to-back throwback experience from the best American girl group ever!

Ultimately, T-Boz, LeftEye (in spirit), Chilli and Sisters With Voices namely Coco, Taj, and ever sweet Lee, thank you for visiting and showing your Manila audience some love! This may be your first but doesn’t mean the last! Please come back SOON! Mahal din namin kayo! (We love you, too!)
