The music world lost a beloved artist today, as Dolores O’Riordan, the lead singer of alt-rock/pop band The Cranberries, has passed away. She was 46.
The Cranberries posted their official statement via Facebook.
The band also expressed their feelings on Twitter.
We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today.

According to reports, the cause of her death was not given. Apparently, the singer hadn’t publicly revealed any illnesses. Hence, her passing came as a surprise to fans around the world. On the Facebook post, it was said that the singer’s “family members are devastated to hear the breaking news,” which makes it seem like it came as a shock to them as well.
The Cranberries emerged in the US music scene in 1993 with the breakout song “Linger.” The song was a rare crossover hit that succeeded both in the alternative world and on the Top 40 landscape. “Linger” became the band’s highest-charting song and sole top 10.
Later on, the band would have other successful singles including “Free to Decide” and “When You’re Gone.” Another of their popular single was “Zombie” and this song has stood the test of time. Even today, it is a favorite song, especially by many 90s babies.
