With over 1 billion people currently on Messenger, it’s safe to say that it has become a must-have app for anyone who’s connected online. People send over 22 million GIFs a day, and 17 billion photos to friends every month. Meanwhile, over 2.5 billion emojis, photos, stickers and videos are sent everyday through Messenger.

We’re constantly updating the platform to create the most engaging experiences while communicating with the people who matter most. Just this December, we launched the brand-new Messenger Camera to make sharing photos and videos faster, simpler, and more fun.

There are a lot of things you can do on Messenger if you know how. Here are a few of them:

  • Spice up your conversations with your Messenger art. Replace those plain text messages with colorful artwork you can create on Messenger – art is the window to your soul after all. Click on the palette icon next to the shutter button for a blank canvas where you can doodle and decorate. When you’re all done with your masterpiece, add to your day to share with friends or save to Camera Roll for later!
  • Spruce up ordinary photos by adding overlaid text and graphics to turn them into eye-catching imagery. Shoot, add text, and scroll through suggested related artworks to turn usual captions into quirky graphics or to put borders or stickers. Type “having coffee,” and you might see a number of relevant pieces you could add to help you better express what you need to through your photo. Fancy adding a yellow coffee cup or a border made of roasted beans to that photo?
  • Take a selfie and add some kooky eyeglasses, a stylish hat or a rocking hot pink wig using the different props, masks and effects you can paste on your face that are available on Messenger. If a photo isn’t enough, take a video and select from the different masks and special effects to add sass and style to your video messages. Masks and effects can be applied before you take your photo or video by tapping the smiley icon at the top of the screen. Remember, a long hold on the shutter will record a video once the camera screen is active.
  • In an age where video is king, create a vlog of your day by uploading snippets of photos and videos to Messenger. On the main screen, click Add to your day, and shoot away. Watch how your friends’ days unfold by clicking on their updates on the top most bar and immediately share your reaction as you watch their videos. You can also share with select friends or group chats if you prefer to keep things private.
