The Wild West Tagaytay Highlands Steakhouse

 (P 3, 280.00 for 30 oz.)
It is a big log cabin that smells of fresh pine. The music playing the whole time we were there were 70’s and 80’s music – mostly love songs. Coupled with candles and the really cold air-con, I felt so relaxed considering the about 1 1/2 hours drive I did from Manila The waiters are all garbed in cowboy outfits (from the hat, scarf, plaid shirts and boots!) so it gives you that wild, wild west atmosphere, straight from a Western movie. There are 2 private dining rooms near the entrance called Arizona and Texas room which can seat up to 12 people. Two flights down the stairs takes you to their exclusive cigar room and extensive wine cellar. I brought along my son who always requests to eat at this restaurant because they also have kiddie portions so nothing is wasted. Service was impeccable, just like a five star hotel’s. All our needs were anticipated and nothing went wrong during our whole meal.

Taittinger Brut Reserve (France) (P2,800.00 per bottle)
Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mourredre 2007 (P1,900.00 per bottle)
To start the meal, they give you lots of bread and butter that you personally have to cut off into the size you want. I ordered fruit shakes because I had to keep the meal under “general patronage” so to speak though I have tried in past visits their extensive wine selection. To name some that always seem to go well with the U.S. Angus Rib Eyes are Taittinger Brut Reserve from France or Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mourredre 2007 and Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Millesime 1989 (France) that goes well with seafood like their salmon. Yes, they are not only famous for their steaks but for their other dishes like seafood and pasta. They also have the ever famous Caesar Salad.

Tagaytay Highlands Steakhouse U.S. Angus Rib Eye Steak
(P1,680.00 (15 oz.)
With the steak , you may choose “cowboy style” which basically means they will cook it right infront of you like in a Japanese restaurant. This order of course will cost a little bit more so if you are in quite a hurry, then just tell them you want the ordinary kind of order which is straight from the kitchen.
We ordered the Cream of Mushroom Soup in Puff Pastry and the U.S. Angus Rib-Eye (15 oz.). The soup was probably the best I have ever tasted in the Philippines and the serving container just right. All steak orders come with 2 side dishes. Choices are buttered vegetables, baked potato, french fries, rice, mashed potato, buttered cob of corn vegetables. Unlimited gravy requests are okay. They generously give this with a big smile.

My son loves to dip his french fries in it so they understood.

Tagaytay Highlands Steakhouse Chocolate Walnut Fudge
(P 180.00)
My U.S. Angus Rib-Eye was done medium well. It was excellently cooked and even if I had a couple appetizers beforehand, I gobbled the whole thing by myself. For dessert, we had the Macadamia Rum Raisin Cheesecake. A nutty cheesecake with rum and cinnamon raisin flavor. I was told it is the best seller. For the chocolate lovers, there is the Chocolate Walnut Fudge. A fudgy chocolate cake with a kick of walnut taste. This fudge dessert is very rich and heavy.
