For the first time, artist-actress Solenn Heussaff-Bolzico has opened up on Instagram about her current struggle with a painful condition involving her wrists which she says she has been going through for the past five months.
Called De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis, it affects the tendons on the thumb side of one’s wrist and causes discomfort when straining one’s hand, making a fist, or grasping any object. According to medical sites, the exact cause of the condition is unknown but it’s associated with “chronic overuse” of your wrist and repetitive hand or wrist movement can make the pain much worse.
“[Woke] up early because of the pain I get from my [De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis]. It’s been 5 months and it sucks,” Solenn wrote on her Instagram stories. “Also, being forced to use my left hand during these times has made me realise how unfriendly everyday things are to left-handed people.”
She said that she has tried hand exercises, dry needling, and thumb splints to alleviate the pain. She may take an injection of steroids on the affected area soon, as recommended to her by multiple people.
“I never thought I would say this: I miss push-ups and burpees lol,” she said.
A medical site also listed the following risk factors for the said condition: being aged 30 to 50 years old, being biologically female, being pregnant, and constantly lifting up one’s child with the thumbs as leverage.
