LOOK: These Malls Have Exhibits to Showcase Local Talents

Looking for inspiration? Or maybe you just have some time to unwind? There are now malls in the Philippines that serve as platforms for artists from all walks of life.

Art for Everyone 2018 is a week-long selling exhibit participated in by art enthusiasts, hobbyists, art foundations, students, and renowned and upcoming artists. The exhibit runs from August 27 to September 2 in participating SM Malls nationwide.

“This year, Art for Everyone will give mall-goers meaningful reasons to bond with loved ones as we bring this fun-filled celebration of art, creativity, and family fun moments closer to them in 23 malls across the country,” said Jonjon San Agustin, SM Supermalls SVP for marketing.

Light Up Your Mood at SM Megamall

If you fancy something interactive, you can check out SM Megamall where you can play with the display. The exhibit has 100 glowing emoji balls that people can interact with to show their happy or sad faces. The emboli balls light up and change colors to reflect a person’s mood.

Light Your Mood is an experiential exhibition presented by SM Megamall and SeeekLab. Through immersive interactions, the exhibition breaks through the boundary between human emotions and technology, inviting the audience to capture their emotions and transform them into art. In this exhibition, SM Megamall invites you to reflect your mood, watch the colors of the lights change, take a photo underneath the emoji balls, post your photo on Instagram and Facebook, and use your caption to answer the question: “What gives you #MegaFeels?”

Special Artworks at SM City Marikina

Our fellow Filipinos from the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, Autism Society of the Philippines, Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Tahanang Walang Hagdan, and Mr. Ignacio Estrada with the help of SM Cares are celebrating diversity in art at SM City Marikina. Aside from their artworks that are displayed, they will also be performing live painting sessions to prove that no matter the health condition, one can still participate in society and make beautiful artworks.

Recycled Art Innovation at SM Mall of Asia

Don’t we all want to take part in the waste-free revolution? At SM Mall of Asia, displayed is an artwork made from acrylic and bus tickets. They also have an Instagram-worthy MOA Art Tunnel that flashes colors to make an immersive experience.

Participating artists include Adam Red, Joseph Limuel Locsin, Don Norbert De Guzman, Melli Villavicencio and Marlon Lucenara.

Trick Eye in SM City Naga

You don’t have to go abroad to see some fun exhibits. SM City Naga showcases different optical illusion artworks that shoppers can interact with. The artworks are specially installed to be enjoyed by each and every one.

If you want to see different painting techniques applied in different ways and mediums, you can check out the exhibit in SM Bacolod. They showcase mixed media, acrylic, oil, and even charcoal artworks that show the impeccable painting methods of our local artists like Ernie Mallorca, Joey Cabiles, Ritche Arvine Cuesta, Vienz Claide Erta, Jirah Songcong, Elwah Gonzales, Rodney Martinez, Ian Carlo Bellarmino, Joan Honoridez and Bert Berundo.

Filipino Culture and Dreams in SM Aura

For its featured exhibit, SM Aura Premier has collaborated with The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS), a non-profit organization that works with the creative community to promote children’s literacy, explore national identity, and deepen public appreciation for Philippine art, culture, and environment. The exhibit, entitled Looking for Juan: The Filipino as a Dreamer, is a showcase of a theme that is timely with social and cultural relevance. The pieces revolve around the aspirations, dreams, and fantasies of every Filipino; and their pursuit of making those dreams come true. True to the SM Aura Premier’s advocacy of redefining art spaces and bringing it to more urban spaces through its Art in Aura campaign, this year’s exhibit highlights the importance of displaying artworks in public areas.
