Rapper and Actor DMX Passes Away

Rapper and actor DMX, born Earl Simmons, passed away. He was 50 years old.

He was said to have passed away peacefully with family present after suffering a cardiac arrest.

DMX was hospitalized last week following a heart attack. As of April 4, he was in a vegetative state and was on life support.

His family released a statement announcing the news.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him,” the statement says.

It adds, “Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”

DMX rose to fame in 1998 with his debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot. According to hip-hop magazine The Source, the album is “a mind-gripping opus that fully encompasses the appeal of one of rap’s newest sensations.” The rapper would then release his best-selling album …And Then There Was X the following year.

He entered the film industry as Tommy “Buns” Bundy in the 1998 film Belly. He would go on to star in Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and Last Hour.
