LOOK: Photographer Shows the Difference Between a Pro and Non-Pro Photographer

For many people, like those who are just starting out in photography, it is easy to fall into the notion that fancy photography gear is the answer to taking great photos. Like an expensive camera would guarantee equally expensive-looking photos. Well, a professional photographer is here to prove to you that is just not the case.

In this Facebook post by Utah based professional photographer, Kandis of Wish Photography, she puts a side-by-side photo of one portrait taken by a non-professional photographer, and another taken by her, a professional. The difference of the two images are huge, and the way she explains it gives the post even more sense.

She explains:

I did a little experiment today. I had a friend who is not a photographer take and photograph my daughter using my camera, my lens. She chose the location in my front yard and pose. I then took my camera and kept my daughter in the same location with a similar pose and photographed it.
While good equipment is important, it does not make one a professional. This is why I am so passionate about photography education and I love teaching workshops. It takes more than a good camera, editing software and a pretty model…it takes knowledge, talent and heart.

Both images were shot with the Canon 5d Mark IV and Canon 70-200 2.8 II
Same lighting, same model, same location.

One photographer had the equipment…the other had the equipment and the knowledge.

Edited: Pro image is edited because it is part of the education process.

No matter how expensive your photography equipment are, if you don’t have the skills, you don’t have the skills.
