5 Ways To Ensure You Accomplish Your New Year’s Resolution

Are you tired of never achieving your new year’s resolution? Every new year, many of us set a goal called our “New Year’s resolution”. It’s a simple goal that we set at the start of the year and hope to accomplish within the year. Most new year resolutions involve losing a little weight or quitting a bad habit. However, many of us end up not achieving our new year’s resolution, or we just downright quit trying to achieve it as the year progresses. If you’re reading this, you’re probably like many of us. So, this year, prepare yourself because I listed below 5 ways for you to finally achieve it for a change.

5 Ways To Ensure You Accomplish Your New Year’s Resolution

5. Set a SMART Goal.

No, I don’t mean “smart” as in an intelligent goal. SMART is an abbreviation for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. By setting a SMART goal, you limit your goal to a specific outcome rather than setting vague and undefined goals that doesn’t have a clear result. So, instead of making a vague resolution–like trying to slim down this year– limit your resolution by setting a specific weight target. That way, you’ll have a clearer objective. If you’re not convinced that setting a clear goal can help you, American poet Bill Copeland has this to say:

4. Write down your goals

Once you have a well-planned, specific goal in mind, don’t stop there: write it down! According to an article in Forbes, a study conducted on the 1979 Harvard MBA program shows that those who wrote down their goals earned far more than those who did not write them down. So, to fully maximize the potential of accomplishing your new year’s resolution, take a pen and write that resolution down.

3. Make a Progress Report

Keeping a progress report will help you re-evaluate your goals and keep you on track as you move to meet your resolution. By having a progress report, you can set specific targets or objectives to help you plan out how you can achieve you goal. It could also help you get back when things go sour. Your progress report doesn’t have to be daily, either; it can be a monthly or quarterly report, just don’t forget to make one!

2. Dedicate Yourself to the Goal.

How much dedication and motivation you put into accomplishing your goal is the cornerstone to achieving it. According to Psychology Today, “Motivation is the foundation all athletic effort and accomplishment. Without your desire and determination to improve your sports performances, all of the other mental factors, confidence, intensity, focus, and emotions, are meaningless.” Although the article talks about sports, it virtually works the same way: when you’re not motivated enough to reach your goal, all attempts to reach them is meaningless.

1. Make a Dream Board.

There is a reason why you made a new year’s resolution, and a dream board is one way to remind yourself what that reason is. It doesn’t matter what you put in your dream board: it could be a cut-out of a nice house from a magazine you recently read, a picture of what you think is the prefect body, or even a picture of what you want your future lifestyle should be. A dream board doesn’t need to be realistic or modest, it should contain visions of what you truly desire. Once you’re done making your dream board, view it at least once a day. The wilder and greater the desire to achieve the dream, the better!
