The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) clarified that the agency will not sue motorists who take videos of traffic enforcers especially during doing transactions with them.
According to a report from GMA News Online, MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos told them that the agency will not file charges to motorists for doing such.
Carlos said, “Wala po. Hindi po. Ang MMDA po, bilang ahensya, ay hindi namin babalikan [ang motorista].” (Rough translation: No. The MMDA, as an agency, will not get back at the motorists.)
The conversation was about the video recording of private car owner Dianne Versoza. Apparently, Versoza recorded an alleged extortion try of an MMDA traffic enforcer along Commonwealth Avenue.
Carlos added that their job of enforcing traffic rules is a public duty and not private. Thus, taking a video should be allowed especially for the own protection of the motorists.
He also reminded the traffic enforcers about the 30-second apprehension rule.
