Miss Philippines Catriona Gray wins Miss Universe 2018!

Catriona Gray Miss Universe

After a much-publicized run, Miss Philippines Catriona Gray wins Miss Universe 2018.

She is the fourth representative from the country to win the title, following Gloria Diaz in 1969, Margie Moran in 1973, and Pia Wurtzbach in 2015.

Gray was joined by South Africa as first runner-up, Venezuela as second runner-up, and Puerto Rico and Vietnam in the top 5.

She stunned the competition even before the coronation night with her slow-mo walk and her fashion choices. During the final Q&A, she was asked her thoughts on legalizing marijuana. She responded, “I’m for being used in medical use but not so for recreational use. Because I think if people were to argue, ‘what about alcohol and cigarettes?’ So everything is good but in moderation.”

This year’s Miss Universe was held in Bangkok, Thailand. The show was hosted by Steve Harvey. This year’s competition was also noted for its all-female panel of judges, including Fil-Am fashion designer Monique Lhuillier. This is also the first time that a transgender contestant was represented, with the inclusion of Miss Spain Angela Ponce.

Congratulations to Catriona for winning the crown!
