The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released an advisory to warn the public of temperatures possibly reaching 38 degrees Celcius in Metro Manila this April. It may even soar to 39.5Â degrees Celcius in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. They strongly advise citizens to be mindful of the heat and to stay hydrated.
While 38 degrees is an “instantaneous value”, meaning a value at one point in time and not the average for the month, the state weather bureau still counsels everyone to be prepared. Especially because the forecast only takes in mind air temperature, while the heat index could be much higher — and the heat index is the actual temperature which the body experiences.

Ana Liza Solis, chief of PAGASA’s Climate Impact Monitoring and Prediction Section, urges the public to reduce food and alcohol intake and to stay inside from 10am-1pm. People should also be vigilant of symptoms of heat stress (rapid heartbeat, cramps, vomiting, and dizziness).
Metro Manila’s last hottest temperature was last registered on May 14, 1987, at 38.5 degrees Celsius.
