Living in the mind of the author through their works is what makes the fantasy genre so fantastical. 5. “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.
R. Martin
The critically acclaimed series that was adapted to the show Game of Thrones is an ongoing series by the genius himself, G. R. R. Martin. A fantasy filled with mature themes in an endlessly expansive world with riveting characters that feel all too real to be fictional. The series is filled with mysteries about the world and the looming threat of its villains. The characters are incredibly grey in terms of morality and are so well written that they carry the whole story.
4. “The Lord of the Rings” by J. R. R. Tolkein
A genre classic and written by the grandfather of this genre who is an inspiration to many. The characters have stood against the test of time and it remains a classic to this day. A riveting plot and immersive world that sucks the reader into the realm of Middle Earth.
3. “The Folk of the Air” by Holly Black
A series that came out more recently that has gained traction is the Folk of the Air series by Holly black that puts a twist on the gentle nature of faeries. The trope is impressively subverted in the series and gave way to incredible characters in the story to follow intently.

A classic heroic fantasy with a plot that is incredibly well written. It is a puzzle where all the pieces fit together almost flawlessly and leaves the reader wanting more.
