After investigating a suspected case of the new coronavirus strain in Cebu, the Philippines has now suspended flights from Wuhan in China, where the coronavirus has already infected more than 500 people. While only Royal Air Philippines and Pan Pacific Airlines offer direct flights from Wuhan to Kalibo in Aklan, the Civil Aeronautics Board has announced that other flights from China will also be strictly monitored.
Despite not having flights to and from Wuhan, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has also upped their defenses against the new virus. Thermal scanners are currently in place to increase surveillance, while an isolation room is available for quarantined passengers.
CAAP Director General Jim Sydiongco has also released a statement sharing that communicable disease preparedness procedures have been reactivated. Airport staff members have also been advised to wear face masks and wash their hands frequently. Public advisories have also been posted on coronavirus infections
China has already put Wuhan on lockdown, barring any transportation from getting into and leaving the city.
