When in Manila and looking for the best Greek restaurant, head over to Cyma Greek Taverna. A brainchild of Chef Robby Goco, Cyma serves authentic Greek dishes as well as “progressive Greek” dishes.

Progressive Greek?

Cyma’s progressive Greek dishes are all original and cannot be found in Greece. Rather, these dishes are interpretations of their Executive Chef Robby Goco, making them Cyma Originals. He uses predominant ingredients of the Greek cuisine, while employing modern culinary techniques and enhancing the traditional dishes.

WIM writers Charmaine, Cholo, and I tried some of Cyma’s progressive Greek dishes and boy, we have nothing but kind words for their food! Their servings are also huge so you’ll get your money’s worth. Their “single serve”, for me, is good for two – three persons. For a better dining experience, I suggest you order a few dishes then share around so you could have a bit of everything.

To warm our tummies, we started our meal with a Greek Onion Soup. Our palates got excited from the first sip! It was warm and just the right kind of savory. We also had their famous Roka Salata and Spinach and Artichoke Fondue. What I like most about their salad is that it stands true to what a salad should be – fresh and refreshing. It cleans your taste buds, preparing you for the feast to come.

After the appetizing appetizers, we delved in to Chef Roby Goco’s progressive Greek pastas, steak, and burger. I’ve always been a fan of Cyma’s pasta dishes, and I’m getting hungrier by the minute as I do this entry. Haha! Their pastas have a rich flavour, as they are very generous with their ingredients. If you’ll ask me which I’ll recommend between the two, I probably won’t be able to give you an answer because I love them both.

 Chicken and Seafood Yiouvetsi

Their Chicken and Seafood Yiouvetsi is also something that probably makes Chef Roby Goco very proud. Yiuvetsi is the Greeks’ version of paella, and Cyma has both vegetarian and meat versions. Although what we ordered already has some chicken and seafood, we found it perfectly paired with Cyma’s fillet mignon

 Cyma Fillet Mignon

Our medium well Cyma Fillet Mignon came with a generous serving of feta cheese (heaven!) and olive oil. I think I became a bit selfish with the feta cheese (teehee, sorry) but all three of us shared the steak, and we all agreed that it was a worthy enough to be ambrosia.

 Bifteka

Just for kicks, we also ordered Cyma’s famous Bifteka, their Greek Wagyu Burger. One bite and we knew why it was a favorite among guests. It’s a generous serving of juicy wagyu burger, topped with feta cheese and traditional Greek dressings. Every second of it was delicious! And sided with potatoes baked in olive oil! Must not forget the potatoes!

Baklava – one of the rather more famous Greek desserts. Because there’s always room for dessert. Especially if it’s a Greek dessert.

Sharkmaine approved! Happy tummies!

Happy tummies 2?  Hahaha! That’s me with fellow WIM writer, Cholo Isungga

Yes, his name is Zeus. I guess that explains the good food? LOL

When in Manila, visit Cyma Greek Taverna in Shangri-La or any of their branches. Ask for the Cyma Originals by Chef Roby Goco and I’m sure you’ll have a happy tummy, too.
