Comfort Food Done Right at Paprika Comfort Food + Cocktail Bar, BGC (WIN One of Two GC’s Worth PHP 1,000!)
When in Manila, comfort food may mean different things to different people. It is the varied versions of what comfort food should ideally be composed of that make it a favorite theme among most restaurants and gastro pubs. The difference, however, lies in how well a restaurant communicates this concept. I’m happy to say that our most recent foodie find has translated the idea well into their dishes.

Although poised to be a cocktail bar kind of place with it being adjacent to the Fort Strip area, Paprika offers surprisingly delicious meals that are great for both dinners-before-drinks and drunk munchies or hangover cures. Comfort food is the running theme of their menu – think your grandma’s specialty, taken up a notch. What surprises me though, is the coherence of their offerings. Paprika’s rendition of comfort food involves rice-and-viand pairs that are delightfully familiar, sauce-heavy and flavorful. This isn’t to say that their options are limited; we’ve heard plans of further expanding the menu to include Mexican dishes and chef’s specials, among others.
Pork Bagoong Pasta

Paprika balances the fine line between exciting and, well, comforting with new and interesting dishes, as well as all-time favorites. Their Pork Bagoong Pasta resulted from a happy accident in the kitchen of swapping coconut milk for cream, which turned out to be an unconventionally rich base for pasta. The Curry Burger dish is served with rice (of course) and features the owner’s very own recipe, paired with cheese sauce to offset the curry’s powerful flavor, which is produced from a range of spices. Perhaps the most comforting of all the dishes they offer is their Roast Beef Pares; almost exactly like the specialty ones you get off the side streets of your neighbourhood, and guaranteed to cure even the toughest of hangovers.
Adobo Overload
But if there was one particular dish I’d recommend, it would be their Adobo Overload with its twice-cooked pork that’s juicy, crisp and fatty. It rings true to its name with a heaping of adobo rice, topped off with tangy adobo mayo, and adobo sauce on the side. Just goes to show that you can never have too much of a good thing.

And like any self-respecting cocktail bar, Paprika offers a selection of specialty cocktail mixes. Their drinks are definitely more than you usual girly girl’s concoction, with a stronger kick of alcohol, and fruit juices merely serving to accentuate and not mask its taste. They also have a Happy-Hour promo everyday from 5-8pm, with a buy-one-take-one promo on 12 of their cocktails and a buy-two-take-1 promo on imported beers.
Quality comfort food and great cocktails? Sounds like a sweet deal for us! And did we mention that Paprika’s dishes go for about PHP 200 – 300 only? Great value for your money, I must say. Although a fresh contender in the cocktail bar/comfort food scene (and hidden at the 2nd floor of the RCBC Tower), Paprika shows a lot of promise of becoming your next fave hangout at the Fort.
