Stranger Things star David Harbour and Rachel Weisz are set to join the Black Widow cast

News on future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies beyond Spider-Man: Homecoming has been sparse. Aside from confirmation that we are (finally) getting a Black Widow movie, MCU’s phase 4 is very much being kept under lock-and-key. Which is why the recent casting news of Black Widow has stirred up significant speculation.

Aside from Scarlett Johansson (obviously) maintaining her role as Natalia Romanova or Natasha Romanoff, Florence Pugh (from Fighting with my Family) will be playing ‘second lead’. Little and less has been offered on what this role would entail, as with the other roles in the movie.

(Marvel’s finally hired a screenwriter for a long-overdue Black Widow solo film!)

David Harbour, best known as Jim Hopper from Stranger Things and Hellboy, had this to say on his casting:

[Marvel would] kick me out so fast…[if I reveal anything],” he continued. “Look here’s what I will say. It’s being directed by this woman Kate Shortland who is a phenomenal director. She directed a movie called Lore. She’s a phenomenal director, so what’s really exciting to me about it is it’s gonna be like a real deep, interesting film. And so yeah, I’m just excited for it as a film as well as a superhero movie.

While Rachel Weisz, from the Oscar-nominated film The Favorite, is also in talks for a spot in the movie. Her character is said to play a “key role” as the plot unfolds for this movie.

Cate Shortland (Somersault, Lore) will be directing the Black Widow movie with Jac Schaeffer (Timer, The Hustle) behind the script.
