When in Manila, Swensen’s, an international ice cream sundae shop established in 1948 in San Francisco, California, is now open on the second floor of Eastwood Mall with a goal of providing a variety of yummy sundaes sure to leave your mouth watering.
When Swensen’s Philippines Marketing Manager and good friend from the disc/ultimate frisbee community, Ace Azarraga, invited me and my friends to their ice cream tasting event last November 8, I was more than excited to attend. Seriously, how can a girl who is too in love with sweets say no to ice cream?

For the Christmas Season, Swensen’s Philippines focused on all-time Filipino favorites—ripe mango and sticky rice, and concocted five new sundaes also known as the “Ultimate Ricecream.”
First on the list is the Mango Sensation—mango ice cream with pandan sticky rice and mango cubes topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds and mango sauce, and served with coconut milk. I really enjoyed this one, mainly because I’m such a fan of coconut. The rich taste of the ice cream combined with the sticky rice was also a good balance.

The next “Ultimate Ricecream” is Mango-On-The-Go, mango ice cream on a cone with pandan sticky rice, whipped cream, chopped almonds, mango sauce, caramel syrup and mango cubes.
The third is Sticky Rice with Mango—mango ice cream with pandan sticky rice and mango cubes topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds and mango sauce. The presentation of this one made it so inviting to eat!

For those who can’t get enough of mango ice cream, the Mango Hurricane will let you indulge in five big scoops of mango ice cream with pandan sticky rice and mango cubes, topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds and mango sauce, and served with coconut milk and mochi balls.

Lastly, Swensen’s Philippines offers the Mango Breeze Boat—which comes with two scoops of mango ice cream with pandan sticky rice and mango cubes, topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds, caramel syrup, and served with mochi balls.
