Summer Fashion MMDA Style

Summer is here and it now starts getting super hot. You can even feel the heat without going outside, if you stay in a not well-ventilated room.

Working on the streets, exposed to the heat and harsh rays of the sun, makes people more vulnerable to various heat-related health problems. Therefore, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcers assigned on the streets, specifically on EDSA, are donning their more summer-friendly uniforms, Interaksyon.com reported.

Since last March 16, MMDA traffic enforcers wear shorts pants to keep them even a little bit cooler when working. The said uniforms will be used until May 27.

Interakyon.com added that aside from the new “shorter” uniforms, MMDA traffic enforcers are given “heat stroke breaks” to help the cool off in middle of the summer heat. During these breaks, they can where they leave their station and look for a cool, shaded place where they can rest. The heat stroke breaks are implemented from 1PM to 1:30PM and 2:30PM to 3PM.

Free bottled water are also available to keep the MMDA traffic enforcers hydrated and cool.

This is not the first time the MMDA traffic enforcers are allowed to wear summer uniforms. In 2012, the traffic enforcers were allowed to wear “Type C” uniforms “to alleviate the discomfort and potential health hazards posed by the summer heat.” The said uniforms back then were patterned after the Boy Scouts’ uniform, “to promote the spirit of fitness and the culture of public assistance inculcated in organizations like the Boy Scouts.”
