When you think of pole dancing, an image of strippers dancing around the pole comes to mind. Yes, there is always that stigma and everyone has been trying so hard to veer away from it. Making it sporty, making it “wholesome” and more acceptable to the public eye.
When you think about the history of pole dancing, a bigger debate happens as to where it really came from. Circus people used the pole holding the tent as an acrobatic performance perhaps. Some say it originated in China or India. However, what is factual is the fact that sexy clubs adapted pole in their clubs and bars used by yes, strippers. These same sexy dancers are also responsible for the current “pole studios” everyone is enjoying whether for fitness, dance or recreation. They made sure it was officially a fitness activity experienced in a clean, safer and fun environment. Today, you see a more diverse form of pole dancing and we all need to embrace that the history of the dance will always come back to the sexy style of Pole Dancing.
For the first time in the Philippines, Chrome Divas Pole Dance & Fitness Studio, will be hosting the first ever International Exotic Pole Dance Battle called SULTRY. The aim of the competition is to showcase the sexy side of pole dancing together with the athleticism and grace by competitors from here and around the globe. The competition’s slogan is, “It’s okay t be SEXY. Let’s Sexy Battle…” Sultry will have 21 competitors from 7 different countries. The event will be judged by International and Local experts of the industry. Judges are Eva Bembo – Russia, Andre – Australia, Melody Rose- Hong Kong, Jamaica Jornacion – Philippines and Christina Dy – Philippines.
Sultry Exotic Pole Dance Battle will happen on May 6, 2017, Saturday at 7 pm at Teatrino Promenade, Greenhills. The competition is sponsored by X-POLE Asia to ensure safety in the pole equipment used during the event. Gold (Php 1000) and Silver (Php 800) tickets are still on sale.
