SUBMERGE! Disaster Risk Reduction in the Philippines: The Case of Storm Surge and Flooding
This year, we bring the 9th CE Talk with the theme “Disaster Risk Reduction in the Philippines: The Case of Storm Surge and Flooding” that will be held on October 04, 2014 at the Ateneo Henry Lee Irwin Theatre. The registration fee is at 160 pesos per head.
CE Talk has a morning session (8am –12 nn) and an afternoon session (1pm – 5pm) and shall have four (4) talks per session. We have invited guest speakers; known in their respective fields and achievements in engineering and water-related disaster risk and hazards mitigation; including Dr. Eric C. Cruz, the current Senior Coastal Engineer, for the study, Preliminary Engineering and Detailed Engineering Designs of the Roxas Boulevard Seawall, City of Manila; Atty. Francis N. Tolentino, the Chairman of the Metro Manila Development authority (MMDA), Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, the Program Leader of the Nationwide Disaster Risk Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program, and Dr. Benito M. Pacheco, the current Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the University of the Philippines – Diliman. Each speaker shall share a part of his/her expertise in relation to water-related disaster risk reduction that can be applied in our country.
Roughly 2,200 civil engineering students and professors from 25 universities in National Capital Region and Greater Manila area are participating in this symposium.
