Stupid is Forevermore Book Review: A Clever, Fun and Inspiring Read

One of the ways to relax during an introvert weekend is to curl up with a good book in bed or on a nice comfy couch. And when you visit a bookstore, there’s a lot to choose from – chic lit, suspense, romance, fashion, architecture etc. The options can be overwhelming! Well, let me give you a recommendation: Stupid is Forevermore by Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

It has barely been half a year since she launched her phenomenal bestseller, “Stupid is Forever” which sold more than 350,000 copies; but on her 70th birthday, Sen. Santiago came back with a sequel which promised to give fans more jokes, clever one-liners, silly pick-up lines, stirring speeches and even a short story.

If you’re wondering if this is worth reading, let me tell you all about it because I recently got myself a copy.

The much-awaited book is divided into several topics, such as politics, religion, morality and romance. You will laugh as you read the Senator’s funny quips which are shown through a series of texts and sometimes accompanied by entertaining illustrations done by some of the country’s best young illustrators like Adam David, Andrew Drilon, Apol Sta. Maria, Josel Nicolas, Eugene Madayag, Julius Villanueva and more.

Here are some of my favorite illustrations:

And this is for those who dream of traveling – a word to the wise from the Senator!

Aside from reading her witty jokes, though, there’s also a serious tone in the book courtesy of the moving speeches by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago which she gave during various occasions. This is my personal favorite from the book:

The adventure of life is to learn

I will simply say that life is what you make it.

Dare beyond your strength, hazard beyond your judgment and in extremities, proceed in excellent hope.

Bear the accidents of life with dignity and grace, making the best of circumstances.

There’s so much one can get from reading this book: laughter, words of wisdom and inspiration. I promise you won’t regret buying this. “Stupid is Forevermore” is now available in all National Book Store branches nationwide.
