UNICEF student volunteers from De La Salle University-Manila, University of the Philippines-Diliman, University of the Philippines – Manila, University of Sto. Tomas, Ateneo de Manila University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Y-PEER Pilipinas will be holding the first-ever Filipino Youth Volunteer Convention on November 26, 2018 at SMX Aura Function Rooms 1-3. All proceeds from the convention will be donated to UNICEF Philippines.
The whole day convention exists to promote the spirit of volunteerism among the youth by providing 9 breakout sessions, with 23 speakers from the different parts of the Philippines, a plenary with Lotta Sylwander, UNICEF Country Representative, Ruel Maranan, Ayala Foundation President, Comm. James Buenaventura National Youth Commissioner, and Billie Aranzanso, Filipino Youth Volunteer Convention Chairperson, a Volunteer Fair where delegates can sign-up for volunteer programs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and to culminate it all is a concert by Munimuni, and Nathan & Mercury.
This year’s agenda is the localization of UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited, which was launched by the famous K-pop band, BTS, at the UN Headquarters last September 2018. The agenda aims to ensure that every young person is in education, learning, training or employment by 2030. The breakout session is divided into the three pillars of Generation Unlimited which are: (1) co-creation with the youth, (2) engagement, and (3) governance.
The convention hopes to inspire young people by bringing in volunteer organizations with different advocacies like Teach for the Philippines, Kythe Foundation, Ayala Foundation, Girls Will Code, iVolunteers, SUGPAT, Madaris Volunteers, Y-PEER Pilipinas, Ideas Positive, Hands on Manila, Youth Organization Registration Program, The Dream Project PH, Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development, Galing Pook Foundation, Angat Kabataan, Kids for Kids, and the various UNICEF university chapters.
The organizers have also partnered up with De La Salle College of St. Benilde – School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies in order to make the convention a more inclusive one to the deaf community. The organizers wish to prove that disabilities are not a hindrance in being inspired to serve the Filipino nation.
