Steven Spielberg is one of history’s most exciting directors, having directed Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. His latest movie is Ready Player One and it sounds exciting!
The film is an adaptation of Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel of the same name and is set in a dystopian future where man-made natural calamities have ravaged the earth. Most of the people are poor and their only way out is to play OASIS, a virtual reality game laden with ’80s pop culture references. Its developer, the late James Halliday, put puzzles in the game and whoever solves it will inherit the large fortune Halliday left, along with ownership of OASIS and its mother company.
The lead, Wade Watts, attempts to win by game before the evil corporation IOI.
Eighties and ’90s kids will appreciate the references to Pac-Man, He-Man, Blade Runner, and Zork.
Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan as Watts, Mark Rylance as Halliday, and Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento, the representative of the IOI.
The film is expected to premiere on March 30, 2018.
