Looks like its time to say goodbye to a powerful yet allegedly abused car plate.
Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez ordered the recall of number “8” car plates due to alleged abuse of it. Some reports say that those who abuse it cut through traffic, park illegally, or try to intimidate pedestrians.

A memorandum dated August 24 contained instructions to turn over the car plates to the Office of the Secretary General.
Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, who filed an earlier bill regarding this, questioned that the coverage of the recall is selective. He posted about this on his Instagram account:
Earlier, Tiangco has filed Bill 413, which seeks to ban the Land Transportation Office (LTO) from issuing low-numbered vehicle plates. He suggested that only the President and the Vice President should be allowed to use protocol plates.
His basis was also the reports on abusive behavior “exhibited by individuals driving or using these vehicles, whether government officials or persons posing as such.”
With this, anyone who violates and uses a protocol plate will be penalized with P25,000 fine or imprisonment of one month to six months.
