Yes, it’s true. SM has got it all for you, including solar power. SM City North EDSA has become the world’s biggest solar-powered mall after installing solar panels on the rooftop of its multi-level carpark.

A total of 5,760 solar panels were installed, which can generate up to 1.5-MW power. That much power can operate 16,000 light fixtures, 59 escalators, and 20 elevators of the mall. Those numbers represent five percent of SM City North EDSA’s electricity requirements, and can mean savings of up to P2 million each month. The solar panels were installed by Philippines (run by the 21 year old Leandro Leviste).

This is actually SM’s second solar power project since they also installed panels in SM City Xiamen in China. There are also plans to turn SM Dasmarinas and SM Mall of Asia into solar-powered malls. If all goes well, SM may also add solar panels in other malls.
