The H336 Events Management Class of Lyceum of the Philippines, Manila, in partnership with The LPU History Society, will host this year’s SINUGDANAN: Lakan at Lakambini ng Kasasayan “Showcasing the Tribes of The Philippines” on May 4, 2018 (Friday) at the JPL Hall of Freedom of LPU-Manila from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Lakan at Lakambini ng Kasaysayan is an annual event of the LPU History Society. Every year, students of Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila (LPU-Manila) showcases the exquisite beauty of the Filipino culture by battling for the crown of being the Lakan at Lakambini of the year. It is not only a beauty pageant but also an event that encourages Filipino youth to embrace the essence of our history and culture, and recognize that we are all part of history as it is presently being written.

For this year, the Event Management Class of H336 and the LPU History Society has chosen to showcase the very few and chosen Tribes of the Philippines namely: Igorot, Ibaloi, Tausug, Bagobo, Tboli, Maranao, Ibanag, Kalinga and Yakan. Presenting these different tribes of the Philippines upholds the realization of how unique and beautifully diverse Filipinos can be. These different tribes have great influences on how Filipinos are being defined today.

Lakan at Lakambini may be a pageant but its objective and goal are to make Filipinos be proud of what and who they are. Some pageants may be all about the looks and the brains but LPU’s Lakan at Lakambini is about how the contestants will confidently present their expressions, bearings and values as a Filipino.

Event Management Class of H336 and LPU History Society not only want to live nationalism through this event. They also want to highlight the Filipino value of generosity and kindness by giving back to the community. A percentage of the proceeds from the event will be donated (in the form of canned goods, noodles, etc.) to LPU COSEL (Community Outreach and Service Learning), which helps Indigenous People all over Luzon. It can be certain that through this event, they can contribute to critical engagement and cultural awareness among the youth through charity.

We want to generously thank our sponsors and partners for their continuous support to make this event possible: WhenInManila.com, Venice Bonustro, The House of Utees, Taste of Angel, Kimstore, Golden Success: Flight Attendant School, Mary Kay and many more. Without this generous sponsors and partners, this year’s Lakan and Lakambini will not be making its history.
