Singapore River Safari was today named Best New ASEAN Tourism Attraction at the 29th ASEANTA Awards for Excellence 2016 held in Manila, Philippines.

Singapore River Safari, which officially opened on 28th February 2014, is Asia’s first and only river-themed wildlife park and the latest addition to Wildlife Reserves Singapore’s portfolio of award-winning parks, namely Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari and Singapore Zoo. The park showcases aquatic and terrestrial animals from iconic river habitats such as the Amazon, Mekong and Ganges rivers. Featuring one of the world’s largest collections of freshwater animals, it is home to over 6000 animal specimens representing 200 species, of which 40 are threatened including the giant panda, Mekong giant catfish and giant river otter.

Ms Julie Yeong, Director of Sales, Wildlife Reserves Singapore, who received the award, said, “We are delighted and proud of our achievement and we hope many more will come to the park to learn about threatened wildlife. On behalf of my colleagues at River Safari, we would like to thank ASEANTA for their support and recognition.”

Organized by the ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA), the awards honor individuals and organisations that have contributed to the growth and development of tourism in the ASEAN region.

Mike Barclay, CEO, Wildlife Reserves Singapore, said, “Tourism in the ASEAN region is thriving and we are honoured that our newest attraction, River Safari, has been recognised by ASEANTA. This accolade will inspire our team to continue to enhance the River Safari experience for our guests.”
