Remember when Serena Williams announced her pregnancy via an adorable photo on Snapchat? As it turns out, that was completely by accident!
The 35-year-old tennis star announced last week that she and fiance Alexis Ohanian were expecting their first baby, as she posted a Snapchat selfie posing in a yellow swimsuit with the caption, “20 weeks”.
Serena set the record straight at a TEDtalk event, in an interview with Gayle King:
“Actually it was an accident. I was on vacation just taking some time for myself and I have this thing where I’ve been checking my status and taking pictures every week to see how far along I’m going. I didn’t tell a lot of people to be quite honest and I’d been saving it. And you know how social media is when you press the wrong button…and…”
Serena added:
“My phone doesn’t ring that much, and thirty minutes later I missed like four calls and I’m like, ‘that’s weird,’ and then I picked it up and I was like, ‘oh no!'”
But it’s not like the athlete is beating herself up over it, as she was planning to announce it five or six days later than her selfie boo-boo. Every week I just take a picture and save it and I’ve been so good about it and this was the one time I slipped, but it’s okay.”
