Salmon Caviar Pie by The Pastry Company is as Good as it Sounds: A delectable treat

 

When In Manila, the culture is said to be one that revolves around food. We here do not only eat to eat, we savour the whole experience— we feast in the joy and delight that the meal brings.

It is then not surprising that our meals become celebrations, they become events in themselves. Filipinos love to get together over good food, good wine, and good company.

This was what I had in mind when I proposed to have a ‘wine night’. Wine is a wonderful thing, but it becomes even better with good pairings. 

Enter the Salmon Caviar Pie. 

Made with caviar, smoked salmon, cream cheese and leaks, this beautiful stacked creation is a delectable treat. A layer of salmon and leaks line the bottom, followed by a layer of an egg mixture that reminds me of those great egg sandwiches I used to have as a little girl. Cream cheese comprises the next layer and a generous serving of caviar tops it off. The pie is garnished with more smoked salmon. 

The Caviar pie tastes as good as it looks. Each component goes so well with the others— the egg and cream cheese bind the caviar’s saltiness with the smoky salmon, all topped with leeks that compliment everything splendidly. The different textures  in the pie is great taken together as a whole. The consistency of the egg mixture makes up for the cream cheese’s smoothness. Coupled with the caviar’s great, unusual texture, it works wonders. 

 

How to keep:

The Caviar pie needs to be chilled at all times if it is not to be served yet. The pie’s structure is not that stable and it will easily crumble or droop if not kept in the fridge— no matter as this does not affect the taste at all. For absolute freshness, it needs to be eater within 2 days.

You can order the Salmon Caviar Pie from The Pastry Company. The mini pie (3 inches in diameter) costs PHP 950, this size would be perfect for more intimate gatherings. The slightly bigger regular pie (4.5 inches in diameter) would be good enough for parties and get togethers. It costs PHP 1400.
