Ryan Gosling Finally Explains Why He Was Laughing During Oscars Mix-Up

Much has been said about Ryan Gosling laughing during the Oscars mix-up, where La La Land was mistakenly announced as Best Picture instead of Moonlight.

While everyone else was visibly mortified, the actor was seen trying to control a fit of giggles as the hosts tried to correct the gaffe.

Once again, his reaction has been introduced in a number of memes, and he even increased his chances of becoming the next James Bond, all because of his expression!

Was it a moment of sadistic irony, or was there something more to it?

The “La La Land” star finally cleared the air on his rather peculiar reaction, and it’s a lot less silly than most of us think.

“What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt. I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

Even if La La Land didn’t take home the Best Picture Award, the actor says he has no ill feelings towards Moonlight’s win.
“Truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won. I know the director, Barry Jenkins]… I’ve worked with them before. It’s such a groundbreaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”
All’s well!
