Running Events: Run Tahanan 2014 was A Run for Health and A Run to Help

 

 

Running is a great way to stay fit, maintain a healthy lifestyle and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Studies even consider it to relieve stress and eliminate depression. But did you know that there are running events out there that let you enjoy the benefits of running while helping provide shelter for the homeless at the same time?

Run Tahanan 2014 is one of these running events – a fundraising campaign of PCWorx for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga. Other than being a fun run, the proceeds of this project support the construction of 5 houses in GK Bulaklakan, Brgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City. The run had three categories choose from: 3K, 5K and 10K, all in affordable rates with complimentary souvenirs.

Last April 27, about 1,500 people filled up the Quezon City Memorial Circle to enjoy and support the campaign. Hydration booths were available in each U-Turn for the runner’s convenience and they also have a First aid booth and an ambulance (just in case) to ensure each runner’s safety.

Before the start of the race, all runners lined up in the registration area and received their pre-run kit consisting of a purple singlet, a race bib, and timing chips to know their exact running time. Free product catalogues were also give away at the start of the registration area.

The runners didn’t need earphones because the event had loud music playing in the background, perfect to pump up the runners before the run. In fact, while I was approaching the QC Memorial Circle, hearing the music made me more excited to cover this event. 😀

 

After the race, the runners enjoyed going to the different sponsored booths stationed at the event each giving away prizes and freebies, which of course made us all happy 🙂 Finishers also claimed their string bags and ballers. The 5K and 10K runners also went home with an 8GB USB and 10K participants also received a Finisher’s shirt as a souvenir.

 

As the event closed, the PC Worx President and other officials gave their congratulatory messages to the participants for finishing the run, after which PCWorx gladly awarded the fastest runners in each category. They gave away awesome prizes, such as cash, medals, and electronic gadgets care of PCWorx.

Overall, I enjoyed the Run Tahanan 2014 so much that I went home with a smile on my face hoping that there’ll be more of these running events in the days to come 🙂
