Rio 2: Fly to the Amazon with Blu and His Family
When in Manila, Blu and Jewel will fly us from Rio to the Amazon and into the wild rainforest -for a colorful summer adventure and family reunion in Rio 2.
No passport, no visa required! 3D glasses are all that you will need to join in this adventure with Blu and his family. Our beloved Blu (Jesse Eisenberg ), a very domesticated Blue Macaw is now living a perfect life with his wife Jewel (Anne Hathaway) and their three kids: Carla (Rachel Crow) who is a music ardent; Bia (“The Hunger Games”Amandla Stenberg), who loves books, facts and figures; and the youngest, Tiago ( Pierce Gagnon), who loves adventure. Seeing the three siblings might make you think that they are more human than birds, which is Jewel’s biggest concern as she feels that birds should be wild and free and should not become accustomed to human comforts.
On the other side of the mountain, our human friends, Linda (Leslie Mann) and Tulio (Rodrigo Santoro), who are now married, continue their passion in helping preserve the nature and wildlife. While trekking in the wilds of Amazon, they discover a blue feather that makes them think that Blu and his family might not be the only birds of their kind.
Upon seeing the news on TV (yes, on TV!), Jewel uses it like a visa to convince Blu to fly to the Brazilian rainforest to search for their species and learn to live in their natural environment.
Although hesitant, Blu says yes and flies with his family and friends Nico (Jamie Foxx), Pedro (will.i.am) and Rafael (George Lopez). Armed with stronger wings, a GPS and travel pack, Blu and his troop hurtle into the wild. Amidst the lush foliage, strange creatures, colorful butterflies, Brazilian nuts and different sounds of nature, the troop discovers an entire flock of Blue Spix Macaws in a rainforest sanctuary.
This great discovery leads to a family reunion and Jewel’s reconnection with a childhood friend, Roberto. The bird who, we can describe in the human language as “tall, dark and handsome”. A perfect wild bird that makes our Blu self-conscious. Who wouldn’t be insecure with this blue bird whose voice is given life by Bruno Mars who treats Jewel and the audience to an awesome welcoming concert?
In the perfect avian setting, conflicts arise as Blu deals with the asperity of the wild life – a stern father-in-law Eduardo (Andy Garcia) and the heroic Roberto. But the biggest antagonist of the movie is back – Nigel (Jemaine Clemente), now accompanied with Gabi (Kristin Chenoweth), a cute poisonous frog. If all villains could sing like this duo, I would love them more than superheroes!
Geographically speaking, the Amazon is not as colorful and inviting as Rio, but Rio 2 gives us a different music flavor, color and beats. Rio 2 brings us into the wild, the sports arena and the stage of American Idol. The smooth plot and witty script will unexpectedly bring you exuberant musical performances and sweeping dance numbers, making this film highly engaging.
If you missed Bruno Mars’ concert in Manila, Rio 2 would be a great venue to catch his upbeat performance. Plus, you have Anne Hathaway, will.i.am and the gang to share the screen and rainforest with – you know it is going to be a wild adventure! Rio 2 deserves a mark in everyone’s heart as it is more than a play of music. It would be a shame to Mother Earth to forget about a wonderful movie, just because it doesn’t have pretty princesses and knights in galloping horses. in it.
When in Manila, Rio 2 is the perfect children’s movie to feed you with lessons about love for nature and wildlife while keeping you entertained (or distracted?) with a tropical splashes of color and stellar cast at the same time.
“Rio 2” in 3D and 2D will open on April 9 in theatres nationwide.
