Rewind Steakhouse and Bar: The Greatest Hits of the 70s, 80s, and the 90s!

Rewind Steakhouse and Bar

Steak: everybody loves it. We just can’t get enough of it. No matter when or where, or how expensive or cheap; as long as it is steak, we’ll have it. When in Manila, there are countless steakhouses and bars all over the place, but what separates one from the other? Ambiance.

Rewind Steakhouse and Bar

Rewind Steakhouse and Bar was conceptualised by business partners Deejays Badboy and EON who wanted to have a one-of-a-kind restobar harking to the glory days of the 70s, 80s and the 90s music scene – what I consider the golden ages of modern music. No Bieber allowed.

Whenever I pass by the old Collective Building along Malugay street here in Makati City, I can’t help but be amazed by how the area has transformed into one of the newest hotspots in Makati, especially since the area used to be a car parts place. I still remember tagging along with my friend canvassing tires for his SUV and buying a car Hi-Fi system instead. Rewind Steakhouse and Bar just recently took one of the spots there.

Well, we came for the steak and what surprised me the most is that, for a steakhouse and bar here in Makati, the prices are very affordable. Makes me wish that this opened near my office in Pasig instead.

When was the last time you had your T-bone served along enamel coated tin plates and cups? The last time I even saw those was when my grandmother was still alive 15 years ago! Just seeing one brought back a lot of great memories.

The signature dish of the house, porterhouse steak (bottom) and the beef tenderloin tips (top). We were asked if we would want wine, but somebody needed to drive home.

I had the pork tenderloin that day, a dish which really reminded me of my lola back in Bulacan. This really tasted like good old school homemade tocino. It was sweet, tender and juicy. I asked the owners if they had any secret ingredients or special preparations, but they were mum about it.

The best thing about Rewind Steakhouse and Bar, though, is being able to share all of the delicious meat with the family while listening to Ragamuffin Girl by Apache Indian, Don’t Turn Around by Ace of Base, Let’s Talk About Sex by Salt-n-Pepa and the immortal Always by Erasure. I know, I know, most of the songs I mentioned are from the 1990s probably because of the current playlist and I do prefer songs from the 1980s but still all is good. I was asked what a ragamuffin is and I still have no idea.

So, When in Manila and when the usual meat and booze ain’t enough, visit Rewind Steakhouse and Bar – not just for the steak and booze, but also for the greatest hits of the 70s, 80s and the 90s!
