READ: This Open Letter To Empoy Is An Encouragement To All Of Those Who Are “Not So Pogi”

With all the raving reviews of the currently showing film Kita Kita, I really could not wait to watch it and see what everyone’s been talking about. And as if I needed more reasons to catch it in cinemas, this open letter from Facebook pretty much sealed the deal for me.

The letter was written by Jerome Papa Lucas, and it opened with these words: “AN OPEN LETTER TO EMPOY, TONYO, AND TO All WHO ARE NOT SO POGI LIKE ME.”

I hesitantly read on, wary of possible spoilers, but instead of plot points, it shares the sentiments of someone who, in his own words, is “not so pogi” and how Empoy’s role as a leading man in the film became an encouragement for them.

Take a look:

Jerome talks about how Empoy became an inspiration for portraying someone who found true love in the film–one that was not based on looks like the many other romcoms we’ve all seen. He also praised the film’s producers for choosing someone who was perfect for the role, because it simply wouldn’t have the same impact if the role was given to another person.

By the end of the letter, Jerome hopes for more of Empoy in leading roles for films that he may be an even bigger inspiration for those whose only weapon is their humor. He hopes that putting Empoy in the spotlight more and more will take away the stigma of people regarding good looks and love.

Reading this letter has given me a fresh perspective about the film, and now I definitely can’t wait to see it in theaters.
