While most cockroaches don’t really produce milk, a protein crystal found in the midgut of a cockroach specie (Diploptera punctate) is four times more nutritious than cow’s milk, and could possibly help us feed future populations, according to a research done by an international team of scientists from the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in India.

As we can’t obviously milk cockroaches, these researchers decided to sequence the crystals and are now looking for ways to replicate them.

According to the team, the protein sequences have all the essential amino acids.

Sounds interesting, but we’ll all have to get over our fear of the ipis first.
