WHAT IS PPOP?
Ang puso ng PPOP ay ang pag-ibig sa sariling atin. Ika nga ng ating Pambansang bayani na si Dr. Jose Rizal na “Ang di marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa hayop at malansang isda.” Di manito literal subalit isa lamang itong paalala sa atin na matuto tayong tumangkilik at magpahalaga sa ating wika kasama ng sarili nating musika at kultura. At take note, sabi din nya na “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.” Kaya kailangan nating suportahan ang ganitong advocacy na naglalayon na magbigay halaga sa boses ng kabataang Pilipino at pagtuunan ng pansin ang magandang ambag sa ating industrya at lipunan. Ang realidad din ay ating tanggapin, na walang ibang magpapahalaga sa atin, kundi tayo-tayo lang din.
Ano ba ang ibig sabihin ng PPOP?
PPOP stands for Philippine Pop or simply Pinoy Pop. It is not new genre but so-called a new wave of Original Pilipino Music or OPM.
Ano naman ang PPOP Awards For Young Artists?
It was inspired in pursuant to Proclamation No. 1173 (s.1973) declared the last week of November of each year as the National Music Week For Young Artists. On this, an award-giving body born to recognized the talents and the potentials of our Filipino young artists who marked an excellence and influence in the Philippine pop industry. It also aims to lead and inspire the young generation to love God, country, people and nature as we raise the Philippine pop culture on music and performing arts.
Paano ito nabuo at kelan ito nagsimula?
Ito ay sinimulan ng isang advocate na minsan ding ginawaran ng Dangal ng Bayan bilang Outstanding Young Music and Performing arts Advocate na si Jhon Mark “Yuan” Quiblat. Binuo nya ang PPOP Artists League matapos ang ginawa niyang pagsasama ng mga pop groups noong 2014 na kung saan ang kauna-unahan at pinakamalaking gathering ng mga boy bands at girl groups sa Pilipinas. Dahil sa mainit na pagmamahal sa ating kultura at musikang Pilipino kaya nagpatuloy ang pagsubaybay at pakikiisa sa Philippine pop music industry kasama ng kanyang sariling grupong FAB4Z na may album sa OPM2GO, iTunes, Spotify atbpa. Hanggang dumating ang pagkakataon na ma-encourage ng ilang mga PPOP fans at mga kakilala sa industrya kaya nabuo ang konsepto ng isang awarding na kung saan ay nagbibigay parangal at pagkilala sa mga natatanging individual o grupo na karapatdapat itanghal at nagmamarka ng galling at impluwensya sa Philippine pop music industry.
Saan naganap ang mga naunang awarding ng PPOP Awards?
Ang #PPopAwards2016 was held at Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium noong November 26, 2016. Ang naganap na kauna-unahang awarding ceremony ay tinampukan ng mga winners at nominees ng bawat category na mula sa ibat ibang recording company at talent management na tulad nila JK Labajo ng MCA Music na humakot ng awards mula sa 4 na nominations gaya ng Best Male Artists, Best Collaboration with Edray Teñoro, Song of the Year at Artist of the Year, ang ilang artists din na tumanggap ng award ay sina Rose Van Ginkel ng Viva Records, Freshmen ng Ivory Music, JBK at maging ang Doctor of Pop Music na si Doc. Mon del Rosario ay tumanggap ng Pop Music Icon Grand Honoree bilang pagpupugay sa kanyang malaking ambag sa industriya ng musikang Pilipino. Ang gabi ng parangal ay dinaluhan din ng ilang mga guest artists na nagbigay sigla sa gabi ng parangal at maging ng media tulad ng PTV4 na nagcover ng buong event na pinalabas naman sa isang TV program.
Ang #PPopAwards2017 naman ay ginanap noong November 25, 2017 sa Tiendesitas Entertainment Hall. Dinaluhan din ito ng mga winners sa bawat category na nagmula sa mga recording company tulad ng Star Music at talent management ng STAR MAGIC na si Young JV na tumanggap ng parangal bilang Rising Pop Male Artists of the Year, si Eurika naman ng Aika Records ang Rising Pop Female Artist of the Year, at ang bandang UNIT 406 ang tinanghal na Rising Pop Band of the Year mula sa One Music PH.
Ang event ay dinaluhan din ng ilang mga media mula sa CNN Philippines, Push.com at ilang press people.
Ano naman ang mga exciting na magaganap sa #PPopAwards2018?
Dahil sa matagumpay na naidaos ang mga naunang awarding ay mas pinaigting ito ngayon for its 3rd year. Mas pinalaki at mas pinalawak na categories mula sa music at maging sa mga programa na may kinalaman sa paghubog at impluwensya sa ating mga kabataan. Ang mga nominado at mga tatanghaling awardees sa taong ito ay ang masusing review at pagbobotohan ng mga awards committee na kabilang sa PPOP Awards Counsel na binubuo ng mga young professionals na mula sa ibat ibang sectors na kumakatawan sa youth organizations, music, performing arts, academe, film, creative production at mga advocates.
