The Rhetoricians is organizing a public speaking and leadership seminar called Powerhouse which will be held on September 22, 2014, 10-11:30 AM, at the CAS Auditorium. Featuring internationally acclaimed inspiration speaker Mr. Francis J. Kong, Powerhouse aims to expose students to public speaking principles, sharpen students’ communication and people skills, and teach students how leadership styles affect team members.

Mr. Francis Kong is the president of Success Option Publishing Company. He is also the director of Inspire Leadership Consultancy, a columnist, author, as well as an international speaker, trainer, and consultant. Last year, he delivered 336 talks, training sessions, and seminars both in the Philippines and abroad.

This event serves as a precursor to the organization’s annual event, Magniloquence. Magniloquence is an impromptu speaking competition for UPLB New Freshmen. It aims to foster social awareness in the “babies” of the university, making them more aware and more involved in the countries social issues. The event also offers mentorship by the organization’s members so as to aid improve the participants’ speaking abilities. This year’s Magniloquence shall be on October 13, also at the CAS Auditorium.

The Rhetoricians is the UPLB Speech Communication Organization which was established in 2005.

The organization is a duly recognized academic organization in the University of the Philippines Los Baños that serves as a training ground for young speakers. The Rhetoricians commits itself towards the optimum development of its members and constituents through quality interaction, instruction and tools, trainings, workshops, and seminars.
