Traffic Enforcer Uses Fallen U-Turn Sign to Penalize Drivers?
As a driver in Manila, it’s very important to have signs everywhere. Because of the many one-way roads, no u-turn slots, and other road rules, sometimes it’s hard to keep track of what you’re supposed to follow when you’re on a particular road.
But this is Manila, and sometimes things don’t work the way they should. Take for example a fallen no U-turn sign in front of Valle Verde 4 along Julio Vargas, Pasig City. A driver got a ticket because he violated this rule. Of course, residents and drivers who regularly pass by this road know that you’re not allowed to U-turn there (with or without the sign), but what about first timers? Should they be penalized for not following a rule that can’t be seen to the average driver?

Was apprehended earlier today in front of Valle 4 along J. Vargas. I asked Mr. Enforcer what my violation was: He said I U-turned at a NO U-turn sign. I asked where the U-turn sign was. He then walked me towards it. I wasn’t surprised to what followed: the U-turn sign was lying flat on it’s back along the sidewalk, totally void for anyone to see (except of course Mr. Enforcer).
I still got my ticket which I will undoubtedly contest.
