Pinoys Take Survey on Divorce in PH

Being the only predominantly Catholic nation in Asia, the Philippines, aside from the Vatican, is the only country left in the whole world without divorce laws. But does this mean that Filipinos agree with this system?

Filipinos Survey Divorce

Apparently not, says a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, according to a report by the Inquirer.

According to the survey, reportedly 3 out of 5 Filipinos, or 60% of 1,800 respondents say that they want divorce to be legalized, moreso for “irreconcilably separated” couples. This is apparently a huge leap from when the survey was last conducted in 2011, where 50% were in favor of divorce.

The report also says that according to the survey, 29% were not in favor of divorce, while 11% were undecided.

According to the report, 63% of the respondents are married,  16% have live-in partners, while 21% are single.

The report also says that more people across the country agree to a divorce law, with 67% of respondents coming from Metro Manila, 62% from Balance Luzon, 55% from Visayas, and 55% from Mindanao.
